A Happy Heart Day

Hello

We hope you all had a very happy heart day spent with the ones you love!

Our weekend was a long one (Nick had Friday off:)! I spent Friday working my CAF (companion animal foundation) job and Nick and Braedon went to Redwood Acres to see the horses. We've been keeping Braedon away from playgroups recently because he has had an ongoing cold, which has now turned into a horrible cough that keeps him (and us of course) up ALL night long. Friday night was the worst of it and when we woke up Saturday morning we decided his condition merited a call to the advice nurse at the clinic. Why does it seem like things like this always happen when the doc's office is closed? Anyways, she suggested we take him in to the urgent care clinic to get his lungs checked out. After many hours of waiting, we finally saw a doctor. He told us that Braedon's lungs were clear and he just had a bad case of bronchitis (which every other kid in Humboldt county seemed to be experiencing right now too) So I guess it's going around and he picked it up somewhere out and about at playgroup or baby boogie or somewhere, who knows? Anyways, sadly there is nothing you can do for a toddler under 2 years of age for coughing besides a vaporizer/humidifier, etc. in the room to relieve the night time troubles:(

So, as you might guess, the Simpsons spent the weekend mostly at home with the occasional walk and errand. Sunday (Valentines day) was very nice and mellow and started out with Nick getting danishes in the am and reading the paper and drinking coffee until almost noon in our pj's!!! After that, Nick attended a free build your own backyard pond workshop at a nearby landscaping shop. Braedon and I bundled up and went next door to visit the Farm Store (3 G's) to see the 3 resident doggies and contemplate the ordering of spring chicks! We're seriously considering getting a couple of chickens and have been reading up on raising backyard chickens. We'll see if we actually go through with it or not!

When we arrived home from our little outing, Braedon decided to catch up on some missed zzzzzzzz's, so Nick and I took the opportunity to catch up on some things around the house (washing windows, cleaning bathrooms, laundry, etc.) Very romantic, right? It really did feel good to get some things accomplished around here though! By the time we got around to thinking about a romantic dinner plan, it was already 4pm. Where did the day go? We decided to do something quick and easy, so I ran out to the CoOp and picked up some fresh raviolis, ceasar salad mixings, and fresh brio bread. (oh and a little bubbly and chocolate of course) Around 6pm, we all sat down to a warm and comforting Italian meal (so yummy) although Braedon's lack of appetite lately meant he wasn't too interested in the ravs:(

The night ended with Nick and I sharing a couple of these A-mazing locally made dark choco- truffles and exchanging our cheesy V-day cards of course!

That about sums it up! It was a pretty eventful weekend and Braedon is still recovering so it's been a slower start to our week. The sun peeked out for us yesterday and is back today, so it looks like we'll be enjoying some much needed time outdoors.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
